Sanderson MacLeod Celebrates 50 Year Anniversary

For 50 years, local manufacturer Sanderson MacLeod has produced mascara brushes for the world’s leading cosmetic companies. Committed employees, a passion for product innovation and intense focus have been key success factors, according to President Jim Pascale.

“We can’t help but thank those in the community who have been a part of our story during the last 50 years,” said Pascale. “We are committed to staying in Palmer and confident we’ll find new ways to continue growing.”

Sanderson MacLeod’s connection to the town dates back nearly three generations.

In 1958, with a small building, three employees and a few basic machines, Ken Sanderson and Bruce MacLeod founded Sanderson MacLeod, Inc.

Within a year, and at the request of a Hollywood make-up artist, the company developed the first mascara brush. Soon, the brush became an industry standard and was widely accepted by major cosmetic companies.

In the 1960’s, the company purchased another local brush maker – Better Brushes. With added capabilities, Sanderson MacLeod began manufacturing gun brushes and general cleaning brushes for companies such as Smith & Wesson, Colt and American Home Products.

Upon purchasing the company in the mid-1980’s, current Chairman and CEO Eric Sanderson automated operations and further diversified. Working with major medical companies, Sanderson MacLeod soon became an international source for disposable medical brushes.

“The brush business has changed,” added Pascale. “Luckily, with the talent of our dedicated employees and the continued support of the local community, we believe the next 50 years will be equally exciting.”
